PEARS/Direct Hit – Human Movement

Fuck you! Get pumped!  Milwaukee based pop-punk dudes Direct Hit recently teamed up with New Orleans melodic hardcore punks PEARS to release Human Movement, a split just released earlier last week on Fat Wreck.  Any reader of this site knows I’m a pretty big fan of both of these bands, with PEARS being one of my favorite and most played bands, so I was really stoked to be hearing this one. Consisting of 6 songs from each band (with one of them being a cover […]

The Top 10 Punk Albums of 2016

Ahhh 2016, collectively the shit stain year of the decade.  Admittedly, I haven’t had a chance to post many reviews as I’ve been busy/concussed (forced to limit screen time) so I didn’t post anywhere near as much as I would have liked, including for many of the albums in my top 10.   Nonetheless, I’ve been putting this off long enough, but here’s my top 10 albums of 2016.  So without further ado: 10. Dark Thoughts – Self Titled I’ve said before how these guys are […]

The Virus, Blanks 77, PEARS Live In Asbury Park (6/11/16)

After Punk Rock Bowling in Asbury Park NJ, I headed to straight to The Wonder Bar for the sold out after show featuring PEARS, Blanks 77, and The Virus.  I made sure to get there early as a line started to form as soon as I got to the dive bar.  Even though the show was technically sold out, the bar never really reached anywhere near capacity.  I don’t know if it was due to the oh so punk “No Studded Jackets!” sign at the […]

PEARS, Such Gold Live In Philly (4/14/16)

A couple weeks ago, I headed out to Philly dive bar Kung Fu Necktie in order to catch one of my favorite bands around these days, New Orleans PEARS.  The place had a decently sized small crowd considering it was a Thursday night and the past few times I’ve seen PEARS it seemed most didn’t know who they were,  I got there a few songs in Such Gold’s set. Such Gold: I haven’t really heard these Rochester, NY dudes before, but they clearly have a […]

PEARS Live In Philly (12/10/15)

Ever since I saw PEARS open for Teenage Bottlerocket a few months back and I got a copy of their debut Go To Prison, I haven’t been able to stop listening to them.  New Orleans PEARS mix their aggressive hardcore so seamlessly with Descendent’s inspired pop-punk, it seriously is the most catchy and addicting music I’ve heard in a long time. I got to Johnny Brenda’s intimate small room just in time for PEARS, and the place was actually nowhere near as dead as I […]

Teenage Bottlerocket, Pears, Live In Philly (9/18/15)

This past Friday, I headed out to South Philly’s Boot and Saddle to catch one of my favorite pop-punk bands around Teenage Bottlerocket.  I got to the venue, and the small space was decently packed for a 21+ show. Pears: I’ve heard a lot of good things about New Orleans Pears, and with a bunch of friends telling me that I needed to check them out.  I’ve since grabbed their LP and their latest 7-inch on Fat Wreck, but I wound up missing up half […]
