Ceremony Live In Philly (12/19/17)

It’s been a few years since I’ve last seen California’s powerviolence turned post-punk band Ceremony.  When they announced that they would be playing two shows at Philly’s PhilaMOCA (an interesting, intimate space that once served as a showroom for mausoleums) I knew it would sell out quickly so I grabbed a ticket for the first night. I’ve been a fan of Ceremony ever since I first saw them open for Paint It Black back in 2009 and their albums Violence Violence, Ruined and Still Nothing […]

Ceremony, Nothing, Iron Lung, Bad Side, Anxiety Hammer Live In Philly (7/19/14)

This past Saturday night I was left with a difficult decision: do I go see The Bouncing Souls out in Asbury Park NJ or do I stick around Philly to catch one of my favorite hardcore bands around Ceremony at the First Unitarian Church?  Since I already had tickets, and I didn’t really feel like driving I decided to keep it local and headed out to the sweaty basement (it also helps that even though they’re one of my favorite bands, I’ve seen the Bouncing […]

Ceremony, Citizen’s Arrest Live In Philly (6/10/12)

Last night after trekking out to my home state of NJ, I rushed back to Philly in order to catch one of my favorite hardcore bands around, Ceremony.  I arrived at The Barbary just in time to catch the majority of Citizen’s Arrest. Ceremony, Dead People Screaming Live In Philly (4/21/12)

Yesterday evening I headed out to my second home The Barbary to catch one of my favorite hardcore acts around, Ceremony.  It’s been about a year since I last saw them and they always put on a solid show.  As an added bonus, I learned that Philly’s own Dead People Screaming was opening the show and I’ve been meaning to catch these dudes for a little while. Dead People Screaming: Singer Ryan came out wearing a drag dress and some Batman undies to the surprise […]

Ceremony – Zoo (RIYL The Pixies, Wire, Joy Division)

A lot has changed since Ceremony recorded their 2010 album Rohnert Park.  The band took on a new member (Andy from Paint it Black and Blacklisted fame) and moved over to hipstertastic Matador Records for their March 6th release Zoo. So how is one of my favorite hardcore bands latest release?  Meh. Let’s get this out of the way now, you will not find any of the blistering hardcore Ceremony is known for on Zoo.  Singer Ross foreshadowed this with on Rohnert Park’s opening track […]
