NOFX have been playing punk rock before many of you were even just a wee zygote, and their latest Self Entitled marks their 12th studio album. I know what a lot of you are thinking: “I bet it sounds exactly like every other album by them” and you would be absolutely right… however Self Entitled is their most punk rock album in recent years.
Besides the track “I’ve Got One Jealous Again, Again”, a slower continuation of “We Got Two Jealous Agains”, Self Entitled is a 12 song 29 minute skate punk assault. Unlike their past few releases, you won’t find much of the experimental songs on here, just pretty straightforward punk very similar to their older work.
The album kicks off with “72 Hookers”, a catchy song about the motivations of terrorist, while “She Didn’t Lose Her Baby” has a more serious melancholy vibe.
I’ve seen a lot of hate on this album from fans but honestly, if you’re only listening to NOFX for a nostalgic purpose only, then just go throw on Punk In Drublic and get on with your day. I don’t think the music on Self Entitled isn’t too different from any of their other older work, and if you were looking for something new, you’re not going to find it here. Personally I dig their older sound, and so I love Self Entitled, so much so that it made my top 10 of 2012.
