Sometimes a person’s treasure is right in their old backyard (or some other lame saying like that of your choice here). Example: I’ve had Connecticut hardcore act With Honor’s Self Titled EP since it was released back in 2003, and except for the very occasional listen over the past 9 years, I never really really thought too much about it. It wasn’t until a few days ago when I had my music on shuffle, With Honor came on and my reaction was immediately “holy fucking shit… I actually love this.”
Playing melodic yet aggressive hardcore similar to Comeback Kid, With Honor’s debut Self Titled is a five song (four if we’re not counter the instrumental into) dose of some serious positivity. With catchy and hard hitting hooks and breakdowns that one can literally two step all day to, the shouted lyrics are a breath of fresh air from the almost cliche negativity found in our beloved genre. For example, closer With The Wind, focuses on forgetting the past and moving on while The Mirror pledges to crush apathy and not letting anything stop you from your goals.
Definitely going to start including this gem in my regular rotation, it just took me 9 fucking years to do so. If you dig hardcore in the veins of Bane or Comeback Kid, With Honor is a must.
